Metals and Aerospace Technology

This program will provide training on machine tools such as engine lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, bandsaws, drilling machines, shears, brakes and bending machines. Instruction in blueprint reading, drafting, practical mathematics and measuring tools is combined with all of the courses. In addition, training will be given in various welding processes including oxy-acetylene welding, electric arc welding, Metal Inert Gas (M.I.G) and Tungsten Inert Gas (T.I.G) welding.

The program, with its high transferability and flexibility will bring the student to a state of preparedness to enter the workforce, or to continue on to secondary education with knowledge and capability.

Instruction on state of the art computers is included in the advanced course of Computer Numerically Controlled (C.N.C) Machining. Computer Aided Drafting (AutoCad) is soon to be introduced. An advisory committee from Industry, and the Department of Education (Apprenticeship Branch), are consulted regularly regarding course content and delivery.

RV-6ARV-6A

The RV-6A is an actual 2 seater, all metal aircraft that students and mentors are building from scratch in partnership with Tec-Voc. This is an exciting and ambitious addition to the program and upon completion, this aircraft will fly! Students have the opportunity to acquire the skills associated with aircraft design, structure and construction while using a "hands-on" method of learning. This training begins at the senior 2 level and will be ongoing until its satisfactory completion.
